Course Assessment

Course Assessment

The student’s overall mark for the ILP will be based on the following evaluations:

  1. At the end of Term 1, the supervisor will award a mark out of 100 based on the student’s overall performance during ILP1. This mark will contribute 5% of the student’s overall marks for the year.
  2. At the end of Term 1, marks out of 100 will be awarded by the initial report  examiner for the initial report (including the literature review and limitations of project/critical appraisal). These marks will contribute 20% (15% for the literature review, and 5% for the limitations/critical appraisal of the project) to the student’s overall mark for the year.
  3. Marks will be given for two presentations, contributing 20% of the student’s overall mark for the year. During term 1: poster presentation (10%). During tern 2: 3 minute thesis (3MT)  presentation (10%).
  4. At the end of Term 2, the supervisor will award a mark out of 100 based on the student’s overall performance during the year. This mark will contribute 5% of the student’s overall marks for the year.
  5. At the end of Term 2, a mark out of 100 will be awarded by the external examiner for the final report. This mark will contribute 50% of the student’s overall marks for the year. The student must attain at least 50% for the final report to pass the year.

There is no mark specifically for attendance at compulsory lectures. If a student does not attend a session they can apply for special consideration, and if accepted, they will be required to undertake a make-up assignment. No mark will be given for this, but if the make-up assignment is not submitted or is not done satisfactorily, or special consideration is not given for non-attendance, the student will incur a penalty (deduction of marks of 10% for each session missed).

A student must gain a minimum combined score of at least 50% in order to complete the ILP successfully.
The final report is a core component, and students much achieve a pass (50%) for this component to pass the ILP year, regardless of the combined score from other assessments.
